Welcoming Spring and World Peace Day couldn’t have been orchestrated any better! A SKGA (Sangam Kala Group Australia) initiative, Sawan- the Indian Springtime festival, Clayton, Melbourne was a multi-national revelry that attracted 500+ people to showcase their artistic contribution on an Indian, Australian and diverse cultured community platform.
The event was graced by the presence of many dignitaries including, Paul Klisaris- Mayor of Monash, Steve Dimopoulos MP representing Minister Robin Scott, Anjan Bhaumik- Consulate General of India, Geoff Lakes- Councillor of Monash, Jasvinder Sidhu, Multicultural Advisor to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, Anuj Kulshrestha – Hindi Gaurav, and Moti Visa JP- Beyond India; who not only expressed their joy at being a part of Sawan but definitely showered pearls of wisdom to help talent exploit such excitedly motivating opportunities. The festival presented local performing artists from Music, Dance and Fashion background on a vibrant platform that displayed a variety of cultures, from Indian to Australian to Chinese to African subcultures and many more.
In addition to the performances by students from the School of Indian Dance and Music of Australia (SIMDA) & many more, the festival featured local organisations that serve and contribute to the community through delicious food and drink, and promotional stalls. What attracted most was ‘Soul Food’- an initiative that offered free fresh fruit and tea and all one needed to do was to donate for a good cause, if they felt like. What a philanthropic gesture.
Don’t miss the video as it encompasses the entire event showcasing that Sawan welcomed all ages, backgrounds and cultures.Talent definitely had no boundaries on that day and they wish to promote the same message on on-going basis.It was ‘Satrangi 2014’, ‘Sawan 2015’ and we are already looking forward to the next year’s event by SKGA.
