In this interview with Dheepa Awtani, Sham Kaushal also shares about his upcoming projects- Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re, Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmi Bomb and International movie The Battle of Bengal.
Veteran action director Sham Kaushal had flown to Dhaka on March 10 to begin work on an international film, titled The Battle of Bengal. With the magnitude of Coronavirus spread, the LA-based producer and makers decided to cancel the shoot and get the entire crew back to their home base swiftly. “The crew including the Londonbased Director Richie Mehta, Fast & Furious cinematographer Amir Mokri, were returning from Chattogram (45 minutes plane ride away from Dhaka) when informed about cancellation. Though we received great support from the Bangladesh government, it is my sincere urge top avoid travel unless absolutely necessary” states the Stunt Master.
This #Quarantine, the award winning stunt director has been going through his dossier and reminiscing his best days of life. He recalls having coming from a very modest family & done M.A at Hoshiarpur University, he did envision to do this in life but always thought dreams were limited. He has forever been thankful to Lord and shares he is immensely lucky to have been blessed a life that he experiences today. He is very proud of his family, the upbringing his wife Veena has been able to provide his two sons- Vicky & Sunny Kaushal and the humbleness with which the boys have accepted stardom.
He started working as a stunt man and co-ordinator on 08.08. and got his first break as a Action Director on 07.05.90. He is thrilled to be celebrating 30 glorious years this 2020.
The years going on he has created history with his mastery & state of the art Action sequences. Indeed awe-striking. He is synonym for the word Bollywood Action and glorious filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is directing his 10the film Gangubai Kathiawadi and Sham Kaushal is associated as the action director for the 10th time- a fabulous creative bond between the Directors which gives us exemplary cinema since the days of the movie Khamoshi.
A recipient of multiple Filmfare and IIFA Awards, prestigious Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionare along with Hindi superhits like Dangal, Bajirao Mastani, Krrish 2 & 3, Bajrangi Bhaijan, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dhoom 3, Ram Leela, Raajneeti, Phantom, Kaminey, Om Shanti Om, Gundey, Ishaqzaade & realistic Films like Blackfriday, Parzania, 1971, A Wednesday and The Reluctant Fundamentalist to his credit. Apart from many other prestigious awards he has got five Filmfare Awards, three ina row amaximum any Action Director has got.
